Assembled Identity

Mixed media on canvas, 100 × 70 cm, 2023
Co-created with Paolo Amoretti
Assembled Identity is a contemporary mixed media painting born from a direct dialogue between two artistic languages, where identity emerges not as a single form, but as a field of coexistence.
On one side, a dense and material presence takes shape through collage and layered construction. Fragments, textures, and stratified surfaces evoke memory, time, and the physical process of assembling an image. This dimension, developed through Paolo Amoretti’s intervention, grounds the work in matter.
Opposite, a second figure appears more fluid and elusive. Rather than being constructed, it seems to arise — emerging through gesture, transparency, and the movement of liquid color. This presence, shaped by Ilaria Berenice, suggests a more intuitive and immaterial dimension of identity.
The background becomes the space where these two forces meet. Built through a shared process, it holds both structure and dissolution, allowing the two figures to coexist without merging.
Assembled Identity explores identity as a composite condition — where material and immaterial, constructed and spontaneous, coexist without resolution. The work does not attempt to unify these dimensions, but to hold them together in a state of dynamic balance.
