I created this portrait to pay homage to Nina Simone, and celebrate the indelible mark she left on the world of music. Each artist maintains a dialogue between his human nature and his divine nature, a dichotomy present in every human being, even if many are not aware of it. Artists, in particular, have a special connection with the divine, as they draw upon that sphere for inspiration, transforming ineffable visions into tangible realities through their creativity.

It is often easier to criticize the human aspect of an artist, vulnerable to everyday weaknesses and challenges, and these criticisms usually come from those who fail to recognize or appreciate the divine spark in themselves or others.

Nina Simone exemplified generosity through her total commitment to music, leaving an indelible mark on art. Those who criticize her should first try to match her courage and dedication.

Here I represented Nina between light and darkness, without defined boundaries, to symbolize how we are all an integral and indistinguishable part of the world around us.
