Eyes of Winter

Eyes of Winter - expressive animal portrait by Ilaria Berenice

Mixed media on paper lined on panel, 50 x 65 cm.

Eyes of Winter emerges through fragments of ink, gesture, and suspended traces, where the face of the snow leopard appears less as an animal than as a silent field of awareness.

The piercing blue gaze cuts through the fluid monochrome structure, creating a tension between stillness and alert presence.

Rather than describing the creature realistically, the work dissolves form into instinct, intuition, and atmosphere — allowing the image to emerge through absence as much as through mark-making.

The white field surrounding the figure amplifies the sensation of silence, distance, and crystalline perception, evoking the quiet intensity of winter landscapes and the elusive nature of the wild.

What remains is not a portrait, but an encounter with a presence both fragile and sovereign.
