Each piece is not a representation, but a state — an architecture in the act of becoming.
Through construction, rupture and painterly reconstruction, these works explore the emergence of inner structures in constant transformation.
THE PROCESS
Construction. Rupture. Transformation.
Each work begins with an act of construction. Fragments of paper, images and materials are layered through collage, gradually creating a surface, a structure, a possible order.
Then that order is disrupted.
I tear, remove, cover and alter what I have just built. Parts disappear; others survive unexpectedly. Through décollage, new forms begin to emerge from the remains — forms that were never planned.
Painting enters at this point, not to restore what existed before, but to follow what has appeared. I strengthen certain forms, dissolve others, create connections and allow the work to find its own architecture.
The final image is therefore not something I execute from a predetermined idea.
It is something I discover through the process of making it.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ilaria Berenice is an Italian contemporary artist whose practice explores transformation, identity and the emergence of form.
Working across painting, mixed media and collage, her process often begins with construction and continues through rupture, layering and reconstruction — allowing unexpected structures to emerge from the work itself.
Her work has been presented in exhibitions and site-specific contexts in Italy and is held in private collections internationally.
